Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries of the project are those most likely to make use of research findings.

 

They include:
  1. Government departments and bodies concerned with land reform in the three countries (in South Africa, the national Department of Land Affairs, the provincial Dept of Agriculture, and local government bodies such as district municipalities located in Limpopo Province; in Zimbabwe, the central Ministry of Lands both the national and Masvingo provincial offices of the Department of Agricultural Research and Extension (AREX); and the Ministry of Land, Resettlement and Rehabilitation in Namibia.
  2. Policy advocacy/implementing NGOs in all three study sites (Nkuzi Development Association in South Africa; CARE and SAFIRE in Zimbabwe and the Desert Research Foundation in Namibia.
  3. A regional policy making and support service agency, the Southern African Development Community Land Reform Technical Facility, based in Botswana.
  4. Donors which have provided support to land reform programmes in the three countries, including DFID country and regional offices, Belgian Technical Cooperation in South Africa, and GTZ in Namibia. Discussions with donors on this project have been on-going, showing substantial interest in the themes proposed.
  5. International agencies with a focus on land reform, including the World Bank and FAO, both of whom the project team have interacted with intensively in the past. In addition, international NGOs with a focus on land reform and rights, such as Oxfam-UK, will be central to dissemination strategies.
  6. Land reform beneficiaries in the specific research sites, who will be involved in exchange networking with other ‘users’ during the project (see case for support).
